i used a DVD burner to overburn a cd to 745mb, since then the drive lags during read operations and won't burn cds or dvds, with nero stating that the drive reported that the burn lens is not responding. is this something that can be fixed with the right tools and know-how, or am i out of luck, as this drive is out of warranty?

The physical limit of a 700 mb CD is 735mb. I guess your driver has been damaged this time. Maybe you need to replace a new driver rather than repair.

Maybe you've run the laser past the point where it can be returned (mechanically). If so, I would imagine you could open up the drive and move it back into the area where it will function.

upon opening the drive, i found the laser to not be stuck all the way at the end of it's track. could there be another cause for the malfunction?
