DVD Display Blurry

Okay, so I recently decided to make my computer into a mini home theater. I bought 5.1 surround sound w/ an amp and it all sounds good. But then, when I tried to play a DVD through my Pioneer DVD player (the one that is in my computer) it was for some reason blurry compared to when watched on a regular TV. I even changed my cables from an analog to a DVI-D cable but no difference. My monitor is a Dell 2407WFP-HC and my GPU is SLI MSI 8800Ultra which both support DVI-D.
Does anyone know how I can fix the problem of the unsharp DVD playback? Or, is this just how DVD playback on computers is?
 
What Resolution do you have your TV setup at?


Also there are options in the Nvidia panel for adjusting picture quality.

Right click desktop click Nvidia then go down to Video and Televison and Enable Inverse Telecine.

You also have Edge enhancment and Nosie reduction.


Also try a diffrent DVD cos some films just look shit.
 
Since your DVDs are being scaled to your high-def TV, they look blurry. On standard TV, they were running at native resolution and so they looked sharper. What you will have to do is to setup some custom upscaling using FFDshow. My setup consists of FFDshow and Media Player Classic. With some basic settings you can find on the web, the DVDs I watch look almost identical to the blu-ray and HD-DVD movies I watch. Its really unbelievable. Here is a good guide to get started...its a lot of work at first, but it pays off at the end.

DVD is lo-def and the display is hi-def. The difference in resolution (when filling the display) must be compensated for with scaling. Presumably the Dell has a poor scaler typical of monitor as opposed to a TV. So, as said, it can be done in software instead. As an alternative to fiddling with ffdshow, MPC (and MPC-HC) include their own simple-to-configure but powerful resizer. The MPEG-2 decoder used and the GPU (and its driver options) also make a difference in initial quality.

umm.. i dont have a tv i have a dell monitor running at 1920x1200.. that could be the reason, although the dvd playback is fine on my 50inch plasma tv.. so i thought that it should appear fine...
but i will look into what you guys said..

oh and also i realized that any sort of video playback is not so crisp... i even downloaded clips..
 
You can do, but i dont think itll make any diffrence to the DVD pic quality.


Try Cyberlink PowerDVD and tick enable hardware.
 
hey ra990 could you help me out with the ffdshow settings? could you please give me an overview of the settings you have yours on? would be really appreciated..
