DVD disc question

I'm looking to purchase some blank DVD-Rs and was wondering what the difference is between "Silver Shiny", "Silver Matte" and "White Inkjet Printable".

The main reason i ask is because i have some CD label stickers that i want to put on the discs, but i don't want to put them on the Silver Shiny ones if they're not supposed to have any adhesive labels.

Matte and white work much better for inkjet printing a label, while shiny is mainly for using a sharpie marker.

A label should work with all 3 back surfaces, but realize the adhesive can eventually eat through the back and destroy the DVD, so labels aren't recommended for discs you plan to keep for more than a few years. Also, the adhesive can start to lose its grip and make the disc spin unevenly.

Also, DVD tracks are smaller. A label can cause balance issues at the high rotational speeds, which will cause read errors because of additional vibration. Labels are not recommended.

I use white printable and have an Epson 960 printer. IIRC, the R200 and R300 print on CDs and are cheaper.

Yeah i think i'll stick my labels on CDs instead. It's good enough having the nice DVD cases and covers. 🙂
