DVD Decoder Cards

Hey does anyone know if any dvd decoder cards on the market have component (Y, Pb, Pr) video outputs? I'm looking for these outputs without buying a dvd player for my home theater system since I have a DVD player on my PC and my TV has component inputs...
Thanks
Dave

The Hollywood Plus/Creative Dxr3 have S-Video (aka S-VHS) or DSub15 (monitor/SVGA) output. They also come with a converter to convert S-Video into Composite (RCA), but no component.

I'm not sure where S-Video is in relation to Component in video quality (though I suspect S-Video is lower) but maybe you could get a converter from radio shack?

My Uncle is a video editor and he says component video output is unparalelled in terms of quality.... Also i think that converting s video to component video would defeat the purpose wouldnt it? Additionally, radio shack does not carry that type of converter...

It was a guess...I don't know the video connector quality hierarchy, I was pretty sure S is below Component but not 100%. Now I know. Well S-Video to Component might be as good quality as straight Component, but at least it would work on your TV 😛

S-Video, Composite or SVGA/DSub15 is all you get, sorry 🙁

Nope. None have component video output.

Noriaki, here's your video hierarchy, from best to worst:

component: separate cables for Y, Pb, Pr signals. No audio signal. Typically uses RCA-type connectors or BNC. Commonly seen on better DVD players and TVs.

S-video: (NOT aka S-VHS) separate cable for Y, Pb and Pr are combined on a second cable. No audio signal. Uses a mini-DIN connector. Commonly seen on DVD players, satellite receivers, S-VHS video players, computer graphics cards TV outputs.

composite: Y, Pb, Pr combined into one cable. No audio signal. Uses RCA-type connector. Commonly seen on standard VHS VCRs, DVD players, computer TV outputs.

RF-modulated: composite video and sound signal modulated with a radio-frequency carrier. Uses an F-type connector. Commonly seen on cable TV feeds and video game consoles.

Read it. Learn it. Live it. 🙂
