DVD decoder cards

It does offload CPU usage, but that's hardly a concern if you have a fast machine, say 750 Mhz and up. What else do you actually do on a computer while watching a DVD? I just bought a Creative Labs Encore 12X DVD today and it comes with a card. I have a 1Ghz machine but I needed the card for the TV out, my GeForce 2 GTS does not have one. So my reason is for the TV out.

I can't tell you much more because I really haven't had time to test the damn thing much, hell I had to borrow a DVD from a friend.

I have a creative Dxr 3 Decoder. It works great and I use it often with my TV and Computer in Win2k & ME.
Superior TV-out (Just like it was comming from a DVD player, compared to most TV-out from video cards)
Improved picture quality on your Monitor too, and smoother preformance while running just the DVD player or running appz and watching a DVD with it hooked up to your TV

MightyMightyMe,

Can you actually use the TV out to watch a DVD on your TV and still use the computer for running apps? I thought it blanked the monitor when you used the TV out, at least that's what I heard. If it is possible can you tell me how, I've only had mine about 10 hours. Thanks.

Just wondering, I saw quite a few people with the cards and wondered why they would get one.

Doh....
I just ordered a Geforce2MX w/ TV-out to hook up to my Sony Wega via s-video cable.
Should I have gone w/ a DVD decoder card?

No. You will be fine.

You can use a I forgot what the connector is... but it connects to your soundcard and has outputs for rca red/white jacks.
Or get the little digital device for optical out =)

i have the creative dvd inlay, radeon, and sb live xgamer, hoontech addon

the hoontech has yet to serve a purpose. the video loop cable from the inlay works, but the radeon doesnt have pins!?!!?!??(i used to have a v3)

the inlay card has an jack out for sound, video, and a couple choices for each. again, nothing beats raw cpu speed.
