DVD crashing computer

I am using PowerDVD 4.0 on Win XP. When i play a movie dvd it will play really choppy for 5 min, then freeze and crash my computer. I have downloaded the dvd patch from power dvd. Win XP auto-installed the dvd driver. Computer specs- Athlon 1800 xp. 512mb pc 133. geforce2 mx ddr. Please help.
