Please help! I am new to this but have tried every combination of copy/shrink/record that I have read about. In every case I get the same results. Everything says the copy worked fine but the disk is unreadable by my dvd-rom drive (I have also tried it in another dvd-rom drive). If I put it in the dvd+rw drive, it reads fine! I am sure that I am missing something. I am creating my iso using dvd decrypter, shrinking using dvdshrink and burning using dvd decrypt. I have also tried using the new version of dvdshrink exclusively (whole process) with exactly the same result! I am using a dvd+rw disk as the backup destination and have not tried using a regular dvd+r because I don't want to waste the disk if I am doig something wrong. Can someone walk me through the process?

Have you upgraded the firmware on your burner to the newest one? I had similar problem that was solved by upgrading the firmware.

It sounds like a problem with the media to me.

Based on your description, it appears the process is right. I would probably try it using the DVD+R media, and see if the results are the same. Also, you might check and see if your particular DVD burner supports bitsetting. This will allow you to finalize +R media as DVD-ROM media, and could improve compatability with DVD-ROM drives and players.

I agree with BlueWeasel. Stand alone DVD players can be real picky about media. Find your player on this list and see what media works best. It is very possible that your player is not compatible with dvd+.

Edit: I read your post again and realized that you are talking the dvd drive in your computer. Post your dvd writer model and what burning software you have if any.

Actually, I think he has only tried DVD+RW media up to this point. I know some DVD-ROM drives and alot of stand-alone DVD players have problems with some of the +RW/-RW media. I think all will be good if he uses DVD+R or DVD-R.

As far as burning software, he's only using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to make the backups.

I have only tried the dvd+rw media so far. Only have a few +r discs and want to make sure I am doing this right before I waste one. My burner is a "Lite-ON dvd+rw LDW-401S" according to the properties window. I have never upgraded the firmware but will check your link. I have tried reading my burned dvd in 2 other readers and a standalone dvd player none of which could read it. More to follow after I check the player link.............

Your burner supports bitsetting. Get the utility here.
What you are doing should work but this is what I might do.
-Use Open Disc in Shrink, select what you want, then create the iso.
-Open the bitsetting utility and change the type to dvd-rom.
-Burn the iso.

Looks like bitsetting was at least part of the problem! I was able to get the +RW disk to work in my Panasonic DVD player, but not either reader. It required a firmware update and the bitset utility. The utility would not work until I upgraded firmware. I finally broke down and tried a regular +R disc and it works in all players! My methods was as above, DVD Decrypt to create the original ISO, DVDshrink to get it down to one disk, bitset utility to dvd-rom, DVD Decrypt to burn final disk. Not sure if I needed all these steps as the +r disc may have worked in the beginning but why mess with success!

On another note, my LiteOn drive "locked up" after the successful burn (and firmware upgrade). It had never done this before and I have not tried another burn yet. The Booktype utility acted strange when I tried to change it to dvd-rom. The "current disktype" never seeemed to change to what I wanted. Even with all this my copy seems to be intact.
