I've listened to the commentary on some of the Babylon 5 episodes on DVD... It's fun hearing members of the cast make fun of themselves.

LotR had some great commentary from Peter Jackson and the other writers. The cast commentary blew, it was 3 hours of Sean Astin trying to impress everyone with his vocabulary.

I like the commentary on Requiem, when they discussed the time lapse scene and all of the setup with Ellen Burstyn.

The Amelie commentary is good too because he is so critical of his own movie. It's like he hates it almost.

It occured to me that i've never actually listened to the commentary on Requiem. I'll have to do that. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm usually interested, but can't bring myself to watch a movie a second time, right after I just finished it. And by the time I'd be willing to come back to it, I'd rather just watch something new.

Not very often on movies, but I've just started watching the entire Freaks & Geeks series with the commentary on and it's awesome.

It's almost like watching the shows again with a bunch of good buddies, but buddies that know a tonne of inside information about the show and that are much funnier than any of my real life buddies. One of the best commentaries I've experienced so far.

There are some great ones and some really bad ones...

One of my favorites is the commentary by Hunter S Thompson on the Criterion release of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.. you get to find out that an entire huge part of the film he completely made up and laughs his ass off about it... and Terry Gilliam spent a shitload of money recreating it to exacting detail. Other great moments include him telling the audience he flat out hated how one particular scene portrayed him and then he lets out these loud high pitched squeals every now and then. It's fantastic.

DVD commentary on The Wire by it's writer/creator David Simon is illuminating, and dare I say, mandatory, in understanding the layers of this complex show.

Depends entirely on the movie...
If it's an excellent movie (read: many old school Criterion Collections and the like from the 80's or earlier), I'll listen to them.

LotR was a good movie, but don't expect me to listen to LotR commentary for another 4 hours.
I also generally don't listen to commentaries on recently released movies(90's - present). Certain directors are an exceptions to the rule.

Like Mugs, I also listened to the commentaries on Seinfeld DVDs.
They were great!
