Dvd-cloner issue

Hello all
I have dvd-cloner 2013, just tried first time. On a decent 5 year old PC. Just want an easy dvd copy program a grandma could use. Insert dvd movie with multi language and subs, get a 1:1 copy back out.
Tried a normal dvd5, 4.7gb dvd. "Smart" feature appeared to hang for 10 minutes, so disabled as advised in manual. No programs running, read speed set to "high". Well, 1 hour later says 25% done. Next morning, 12 hours, locked at 90%, and somehow it filled the free 12gb on my HD. Never even got to the write part to see what happens.
Any ideas?

Update:
Updated PC (W7) and ran CCCleaner, MSSE AV, all no problems. Trying new program now called "Any DVD Cloner Platinum", and it appears to be doing something similar. After 30 minutes it's stuck at "extracting titleset 12..." . It's giving estimated time as 15 hours, 0% progress.
Any ideas?
Pcg ear is half decent, 5+ years old, used it for burning DVDs a few years ago no problem. Dvd rw is maybe 10 years old, nec nd-3520a, but plays DVDs ok and appears to work ok.
