My DVD drive is working but my Ricoh MP9120A DVD/CD-W Drive firmware upgrade software cannot recognize/locate my DVD drive as the Target Drive. Does the master or slave installtion of the Drive matter?

when I go to Control Panel, Device Manager the CD-ROm Properties shows

Location: Bus number 0, target ID0, LUN 0

Can any one help me here?

Thanks

For some drives I have seen issues if they weren't the master...I am not sure why though...

So you just flashed this or tried to flash it to a later firmware???If so, it serves you right...Unless it is to fix some sort of bug I don't understand why so many people do such a risky operation so freely. If you mess it up most times it has to be rma'd for a new rom chip to be placed on it...

If not, I apologize for the ranting, and give a bit more info on its history in your system...Has it ever worked? Is it brand new? I wont ask why you have 2 dvd drives...

u selectign the correct drive in the flashware?

of course.

set it as master and try...i've flashed mine and had no problems (ricoh rw7120a to mp7125a)...it was set on secondary master.

there's many reasons for flashing, including increased speeds (i.e. for rw), greater software compatbility, etc...
people dont' just flash for fun

are u using the right firmware upgrade?...

i know my ricoh drive had two flavors for the same drive - one OEM and one retail (designated by 'rw' and 'mp' before the product number)

Does this have anything to do with VIA chipset/ drivers?

(I don't have the latest VIA drivers on my system running Win2K)

Is this a result of SCSI detection problems in VIA under win2k?

probably...should've mentioned that...

i have the 3.11 bus masters installed and they're detecting my disks as SCSI...nero would detect my rom but wouldn't burn, that is, until the latest nero update.

the firmware is probably having trouble writing to yoru firmware, even if it is detecting it.
the newest VIA drivers dont' have this SCSI labeling problem - try installing them....(i only use the 3.11s for the DMA tool, which allows DMA/PIO mode selection)

I have that drive and flash my firmware up to 1.30. I have a Celeron-BX based system, so there weren't any Via issues for me. Everything worked like a charm.

I'll take a look at my system when I get home tonight.
