dvd/cdrw drive problem

after i bought my toshiba satellite 5105, i installed xp pro over the home that it came with. i didn't try playing a dvd before i did that, but afterwards, even tho the mashusita UJDA 730 drive seems to be working fine, Windvd reported that no dvd decoder was detected and i wasn't able to play dvds using win media player like i could with my desktop. i had to use windvd and in the menu screens i wasn't able to use my mouse to select any of the options. is this a driver problem? i checked out the panasonic website and i think they said there are no specific drivers for this drive? can anyone help me out? thanks.
