DVD/CD RW drive does not recognize blank CD-R discs

My Dell Dimension E510 DVD/CD RW drive no longer recognizes blank CD-R discs, so I can no longer burn audio CDs. The drive did function in this capacity in the past.

I've already uninstalled/reinstalled the drive in Windows along with checking the status of IMAPI to ensure Windows was set up correctly.

Any other suggestions on how to fix this? I'd prefer not to buy a new RW drive.

Thanks
Bill

Try cleaning it with the air, and if that does not help, get the 'Cleaning CD/DVD" at CompUSA.

If that does not help, get a new one - they're only about $20 - $25 on Newegg, or about $30 for the DVD burner.

Good luck!

I'm having problems with this too. I have a Pioneer 112D and Plextor PX-712A and neither recognized CD-R's after I upgraded my system. Now all I can burn are DVD. Any other suggestions? Thanks...

The CD-burning part may have broken. Check it still reads CDs, and if under warranty call them up as Rottie suggested. Otherwise get yourself a multi-layer multi-format multi-thing multiburner DVD drive for $25.
