Is there a DVD and CD-RW combo drive on the market? If not suggest standalones (seperate DVD and CD-RW) That are good.

Thanks...

Yessir...the onlly one I can remember off the top of my head is Ricoh, 9060 (6x4x24 + 4x DVD) and 9120 (12x10x32 + 6 or 8x DVD)...I think Toshiba and Aopen also make them though.

I think that standalones would be better though.
For DVD Pioneer, the Toshibas are also popular but I prefer Pioneer.
For CDRW if you are planning on doing a lot of burning 12x10x32 plextor. If you don't plan to do so much burning the 8x8x24 Yamaha is also very nice (supports all the CD modes and is reliable) for about 2/3s the price of the Plextor. if you think you will do alot of burning I'd say the plextor is worth the price, if you don't think you'll use it so much you might want to go for the cheaper (but still very good) yamaha.

Samsung, AOpen, Ricoh, Liteon, LG, Toshiba, everybody makes them! 🙂

They're probably a good bet if you don't plan on upgrading for a while.

Jut think: more power available to the rest of your system, as you'll only be powering one unit.

The only folks who don't need an all-in-one unit are those who copy CD's on the fly (at 12x does it really matter?) or need to access 2 discs simultaneously.

i am also looking at the faster ricoh unit.

basically i want a cd-rw for occasional backups (but can't see myself useing it a whole lot), and it would be nice to have a dvd player but not essentail. 🙂
