Ok, I formatted and installed Win2k the other day and everything was working fine. Since then I've been installing a bunch of programs, updating drivers etc. etc. I installed a frimware upgrade for my Plextor 12/10/32a and all was still well. I can't remember right now the last thing I did before this problem happened, but for whatever reason I am now getting this error in device manager: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" In device manager both my Creative DVD and Plextor are there but with the exclamation point next to them. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling numerous times updatind the drivers with windows update etc. etc. and nothing seems to work. Both the drives are connected to the ATA100 channel on my Asus A7V and I haven't had a problem with them like this before. Please Help.

try to check out your bios , cos sometime it auto set it back to manual mode. there fore it may happen that way. by the way your bios at cmos click both dvdroom and cdroom to see it is in manual or auto if it is in auto mode than there is something going on i don't know for that. if it is in manual than set it to auto and it may help you solve that problem. good luck

Don't know if this will help or not. I got this from the Promise website:

-----

Problem: Will my Ultra100 work with a CD-ROM, or other ATAPI device?
Cause: ATAPI, CD-ROM, Removable Devices, DOS, Windows NT, PnP
Solution: Removable media devices can only work on the Ultra100 in PnP OSs (like Win9x). In an OS like DOS/WinNT, that is not PnP, the removable media drivers cannot see our card because it doesn?t use standard resources. In a PnP OS, the Ultra100 drivers must be loaded before the device will be seen.

Now, I think I've heard people say that they've had trouble with CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs if they're attached to the UATA100 channels. Try putting your DVD and CDRW on a UATA66 channel instead and see if that will fix the problem. Be sure you have the latest 4-in-1 VIA drivers.
