So I've got this DVD-RW drive that has worked fine for a while, could read/burn CDs and DVDs without a problem.

All of a sudden one day it won't recognize a CD. It still reads DVDs fine, but if i put in a CD or a blank CD, it won't even recognize that there is something in the drive.

I have checked the connections inside the computer have reinstalled the drivers to the drive. Not sure what else could be the problem.

Any help would be grateful

DVD drives have 2 lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs. It's possible that your CD laser is malfunctioning, meaning you probably need to replace the drive.
