DVD causing BSOD

Have a Compaq 5822 desktop with a DVD/CD ROM. Every time a CD is placed into the drive (doesn't matter if DVD, CD data, CD music, etc) it BSOD. Message says something about VxD SCSI1. The computer doesn't have a SCSI. It has a 500 Celeron, 96mb memory. I'm trying not to do a system restore if I can help it. I replace the DVD with a CD Rom and it works fine. Obviously has something to do with software controlling the DVD.

I've already done an overlay of Win98SE. changed jumpers (master to slave, etc).
I would like to reinstall the DVD software, but I think it is on the system restore disk and I can't find it.

Any suggestions would be apprecitated 1
Thanks!
