Ok, here's the story...
My Dad has an upgraded HP Pavilion (850Mhz, 512Mb Ram, Radeon 7000, etc)

He does a lot of work with his video camera and has been burning VCDs for the last couple months, but with the new cheap (>$200) dual flormat DVD drives we were thinking about starting to burn DVDs.

Questions:
Does he need more power for the drive?
Which drive?

1.That should be enough for DVD.

2. Pioneer A06 or Plextor 708A if you got the cash. For budget tied, NEC 1300A or Optorite DD0203. I have DD0203 and I love it so far but I want to go with 8X DVD. :p

It will work... converting the DV material into MPEG2 is going to take some time with that machine though. Best to do the editing during the day and let it do the conversion at night. Otherwise coldcut pretty much answered everything.
