DVD Burning question

Is there a way to burn a DVD movie from a VIDEO_TS file and have additional folders, such as other art/flash files on the same DVD?

My boss's kid is trying to put together an interactive video DVD and have the rest of his portfolio on the same DVD.

Currently, he has the VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, and then a couple other folders on a DVD, but it won't play in any DVD player or Software Player.

I have burned just the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files and that works without problem.

Any help would be great.

Actual folder list:
VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS
Extras
ReadMe.txt
build.log

Under the Extras folder are several folders containing Jpegs, Flash animation, web sites, etc.

It is his Art/Graphic Design Portfolio

I would assume you could maybe put them in the Audio TS folder, since nothing is in there anyways.

but if you don't just have a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder in the root, it will not be recognized as a dvd. but i've never tried to put anything in the AUDIO_TS folder, and its ALWAYS empty.

try it out on an RW and see what happens.

Well, DVDs frequently have PC only content, so obviously it's possible. Does your DVD burning software let you create different types of DVDs? That's how you'd do it with an audio CD with additional content.

You might try a tool called ImgTool Burn, google for it.

You point it to a directory full of stuff and it creates the image for you. However as purbeast said the only folders you can have are VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and the exception of JACKET_P for it to be recognized.

Is there anyway to have a DVD like the Enhanced CD's (where they have the Audio, then a seperate section with the extra crap)?

What is he using to burn it? Nero 6 Ultra lets you have lots of different versions of DVD.

Currently I'm at work...on a Mac...with only Toast 6 available to me...so in short, I don't have any decent burning software available to me at the moment.

If you're on a mac, that tool I suggested won't work then.

If you can get to a PC, you might be able to try it.

You might be able to find some Open Source tool that does the same thing and run it on the mac (OSX only obviously).

I don't necessarily have to make a working copy. If I can figure out how to do it, I can just pass the info on to him and let him find the correct programs, etc.

I guess I'll go search videohelp.com some more. Maybe I'll get lucky!

Thanks for the suggestions and the clarification on the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS only in the root to be a DVD.

Thanks! If I can make it work, that'll be great.

Sounds like he needs a decent DVD authoring program.

Go and grab DVDlab. Its probably more than he will ever need.

If you are trying to put this together for a portfolio, then you should probably create a DVD for use in DVD players, then a second CD-ROM for use in computers.

This way you don't go against the possibility that a computer might not have a DVD-ROM drive.

If you DON'T do this, this may be regarded as bad design or just plain ignorance, even from people WITH DVD-ROM drives.

One big part of design is knowing when it's okay to break standards, and knowing when you need to conform to them. Delivering the content to your audience is one situation where you CANNOT break the standards of format... just like you wouldn't make a postcard that is 2 inches tall and 1 foot wide, make an audio CD on a business-card sized CD-R, or expect strange shapes to be cut into mass-produced print products.

I don't know if it's possible in Nero.

I just checked out the different DVD types listed, and it has DVD-ROM, DVD-Video (Which is the closest to what you want), DVD-Rom (Boot), DVD-Rom (UDF), DVD-Rom (UFD/ISO). There is no "DVD Video Extra" or anything else that would indicate a compliant DVD-Video but with extra content.

I'd be interested to find out tho. It's definitely possible. As stated above, plenty of Hollywood DVD's have PC only content on them as well.

I have done this before using Nero.

All I did was choose the DVD-video option under Nero, and then put my DVD videos in the Video_TS folder, and the other folders along side the Video_TS folder. it plays in DVD players, and in DVD-roms no problem. Jst make sure you have enough space on the DVD to include everything.

If you mean things like slideshows, PC only multmedia components, etc?

Check it out.

The Pro version is worth the $200.
