I say you can go for the Dual so you can somewhat futureproof yourself. I think its backward compatible with single layer. The media for dual is WAY expensive though for it to be cost efficient.

I have a singler layer burner so I can wait for the technology to mature to at least 2nd gen. before buying a dual.

Keep in mind that dual layer will eventually be 8x speed and you know you will be upgrading to a new faster model.

Buy a cheap ( but good quality) burner now and just upgrade again.

if you buy now, you be stuck at 2.4x. and that's just for +R!
the next upgrade will be 2x -R and you need to buy a new burner again LMAO!!! fvcked up marketing used to drive up the price as much as possible until we are all milked like a cow.

Sadly enough, this is likely the best way to do it, since disk storage technology moves at a very fast pace.

Just wait, you'll want a HD-DVD burner or Sony Blu-Ray in a few years (provided these standards take off) ;)
