how/where do i get hi8 camcorder tapes onto my comp? i need a dvd burner, also want to export from my tivo to it to burn shows from the tv. any good deals out there? any tips on input setup? preferably best bang for the buck for both request.

I just picked up a NEC 3520A, and it is a nice burner. Quiet, and nice looking.

Well, you could get a TV tuner card. Hauppauge makes good stuff.

Check out avsforum.com for the tivo stuff. I think it's a little harder to import tivo files into the computer since tivo encrypts them. I import my replay's files into my server and then edit them and burn them to dvd, but they are imported as mpg4 files. Found the program on source forge, they might have one for the tivo too.
