dvd burner wont work

a customer brought me a laptop and he said the dvd player/burner wouldnt work in xp but worked in windows 98.

its a torisan dvd-rom drd-u624
and the laptop is a Gateway Solo 9300

anyone know what i should do ?

What OS did the laptop come with? Is this laptop one you sold him?

it came with 98 i guess and he upgraded it to xp recently.

i didnt sell him this.

Maybe he needs a firmware update. I'd look into that first.

Looks like he may need a driver.

Torisan driver

edit:

The only Torisan drive I've ever had was a cd drive that had a cartridge that held 3 cds. As I recall, it needed drivers and an app.

It was actually kind of handy. Then switched to an NEC slot load drive that held 4 cds. That needed drivers too.
