Hey i'm looking to buy a DVD/CDR Burner and a video capture card. I'm hopeing to get some of our old vhs home movies converted to dvd format. I've been looking at some burners on newegg, and was wondering which I should go with?

or

is the 8X-DVD+R worth it? or can i go with the older one and save some dough? I'll probably only be burning on DVD-R anyway, because i hear they are 100% always to work on home dvd players, unlike the dvd+r.

I'm also, looking for a video capture card to get video either from coaxial cable or video cable. Which do you guys reccomend? and do they sell it off newegg?

Thanks.

this comes from a guy with an 8x +rw drive (me):

don't bother with 8x just yet. getting 8x disc is costly still. 4x is just fine (and many quality 4x will burn at 8x)
the only thing i recommend to look out for is -R drives. -R media is consistently cheaper from places liek www.rima.com , despite the fat that +R has more features. if you can get a dual burner, that's great too. of course this isn't to say that you can't find +R media for cheap, but it's a lot of watching sunday papers

hope this helps

get a nec nd-2500A - its 8x dvd+/-R, and its quality is 1st class (i never burned a coaster with it, and this is my first dvd writer). It is also cheaper than most 4x.

the only extra "features" is in regards to the burning process itself. the contents does not matter. -R is more compatible with older equipment (mostly 1st generation dvd players). additionally, most every dvd drive should be able to burn cds without a problem
