DVD Burner that works with PlayStation 2? PS2?

I'm looking into getting a DVD burner and I've done some research into it, but I'm still kinda confused...

I'm personally looking for something that will backup my mp3s/data and make backups of DVD movies that will work in my laptop (Apple Combo Drive) and Playstation 2. I know that the PS2 has a bad reputation for this kinda stuff, but are there any DVD burner/media combos that will work for my situation?

I know that there are the -R/-RW and +R/+RW formats and that the -R/-RW media tends to be cheaper. What I don't understand is that if a -R/-RW drive will make discs that work in my Apple lappie and PS2, why would I go more expensive and get the Sony dual format or something like that?

Anyway, will the Toshiba SD-R5002 or Pioneer DVR-104/A04/105/A05 fit my needs? I'm looking for something on the cheap side and they seem to be the cheapest DVD burners on the market. Speed doesn't really matter to me too much, I don't mind waiting 10-15 minutes a burn.

Someone has a pretty good FAQ about DVD burning here (I think Eug?) As far as the PS2 compatibility, I think that's more a function of the PS2 itself and not the burner, as you would need a mod chip to play "backups". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the deal. As far as movies, any burner should work, but you know you can't necessarily do a direct copy due to the size, it's a little more complicated than that.

Yea, I read the DVD burner FAQ... it's very informative, but I'm still pondering the points above.

I'm only planning on playing DVD-R movies on the PS2, so no modchip is required.

I guess that you dont know that burning a DVD sometimes takes a while, more than 15 minutes:
DVD 1x = about an hours
DVD 2x = about 30 minutes
DVD 4x = about 15 minutes

So FWI: 10-15 minutes is more like top of the line
