Sony comes with Nero. Plextor comes with Roxio. NEC comes with...nothing? Correct me if I'm wrong. Which is best? Are they all about the same?
 
I think the NEC has the best drive but Sony has the best software. The NEC comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator and is also available in Silver and Black.

You get what you paid for. Sony might has better package, but it costs more than others. Just get an OEM drive (Pioneer or NEC) and buy the software of your choice would be a better decision. Don't make your purchase decision w/ the software package, it's the other way around.
 
I agree with firerock. Get OEM and buy GOOD software.
Roxio Platinum 6 and Nero ultra 6 are good.
The freeware of Nero is also pretty nice.
If you have no objections to personal backup, dvdshrink is really easy and useful.
