DVD Burner Question

I am thinking about getting a DVD burner, but my computer is only a 800 mhz with 512 mb of ram. Will that be adequate to burn dvd's? or would it be dumb of me to get a burner.

Thanks

some Lite-On DVD burner I found

PC Required :
# Pentium III 450 MHz or faster CPU and 128 MB or higher RAM are required
# 650 MB HDD available capacity; and 9 GB free space for creating a DVD image file

Compatibility :
# Windows 98 / NT 4.0 / ME / 2000 / XP

Tas.

Your CPU is barely at the recommended speed for some burners' requirements.

You may have to burn at 4x most of the time, but it should work.

be prepared for your comp to soak up a ton of recources for that kind of processor especially if it's a Celeron/Duron. nothing wrong with running a DVD-RW on that system.

recently encountered a loon who just had to burn DVDs/process as well.. a 733 P3 w/256mb of ram and a 13gb 5400rpm Seagate...wasn't pretty manged 8x burns(bufferunderrun protection ..does work 😀) but the processing took a dedicated 3 hrs..as always ....ymmv ..

the loon now has an emachine 3100+ Sempron w/768mb of ram ...much happier he is as am I 😉

to ease the burning process, make sure you don't do anything else, and launch any other program while burning. Also, turn off your anti-virus and most background applications you may have coz they usually slow down the burning process - personal experience.
