I have a NEC 3500AG, burned fine before format at 12x+.

Now only burns at 4.1x (but displays 16x suport dvd burn soft.)

Any ideas?

Verify in BIOS that optical drive is detected and set to AUTO. Go into windows/Device Manager and remove primary and secondary IDE channels. Reboot and PC will reload drivers. Verify that optical drive in Device Manager is set to use DMA MODE and is running in DMA mode 2.

do what furballi said.

just to clarify one thing; when verifying the modes, you should be looking under Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Primary IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode

make sure DMA is selected and not PIO. you probably have several Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel, so you'll want to do this for all of them.
