DVD Burner making coasters with new mobo/vid.

I've had a NEC-3500AG burner for a while probably burned less that 50 DVDs on it, never had a problem, occasionally had a coaster, but that was because I started messing around and almost expected it to happen.

Recently I wanted to upgrade to a 7800GT PCIe video card, so I swapped my DFI Lanparty (nForce4 250Gb/AGP) mobo and ATi X800GTO video card out with an ECS nForce-754A and EVGA-7800GT PCIe video card.

It's been a couple months, the system has some weird crash that I can't figure out (fresh windows install), but it works for the most part, that is until I try to burn DVDs. Every single time I get like 10-20 errors on the disc. So i'm sure there's something bad going on here, just no idea what.

Here's some output files from PC Wiz, etc. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

DMA, Yes, Ultra DMA 2 mode

burning software, Nero 7.2.?.?

Media, this media has been all i've EVER used with this burner, Tried a DVD+ and DVD- that i've never had fails with before, both same result.

Never failed until I swapped out the motherboard/video card. Everything else is the same which leads me to believe this is the culprit, but before I go spend even MORE money on a new mobo/cpu, just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts/recommendations. Hard drive maybe? would it be worth trying a PIO mode burn?

Thanks all.

Tonight I'm gonna move the dvd drive to my other system and try to burn, I suspect it'll work fine.

What do you have for a power supply? You seem to have an aweful lot of stuff hooked up to it? I'm just tossing out a guess, but could not enough juice being spread thin among all the components be part of the problem? Try disconecting 1 or 2 of the dvd drives and see if that helps.

My computer has 1 hard drive, 2 cd roms, a floppy, a 7800 gt, and that's it. Forget the power supply, but it's a SLI certified enermax, power readings underload are within tolerances.

IDE cable is from an old system (not too old, but it's one of those striped and made circular ribbon cables), i'll swap it out for another and try that.

Any other suggestions?

Update, I put the DVD-r in an older system, burned a couple discs, no errors.

I'm guessing it's the motherboard (ECS nForce-754A), last time I ever buy a new motherboard to support an old CPU and a new video card. Gonna save my $$$ for a couple weeks and try to buy a new motherboard/CPU combo.

Any recommendations while I have all of your attentions?

Think "CHEAP", but reliable, something that goes good with a 7800GT pcie card. Ah, maybe i'll just start a new thread...

Thanks again Anandtech dudes.
