I'm in the market for a DVD burner to backup my DVD collection. I have a Dell integrated DVD burner but DVD X Copy has issues with several burners including mine. I'm thinking about going with the Sony DRU510A Internal 4x DVD+R/-R/+RW/-RW Burner. Has anyone tried this burner with DVD X Copy? If so how does it work? What other DVD burners work well with DVD X Copy? Thanks.

To be honest DVDXCOPY sucks. Dont bother with it.
If you want to backup your DVD's then get DVD SHrink and use Nero to burn the VOB files, it is much easier and less buggy.

The SONY dvd unit you are looking at is a great one, i would buy it if i didnt already have a 4x TDK :)

Thanks
I'm not to computer savy when it comes to doing this type of stuff so I would prefer the one click approach. Why does DVD X Copy suck? What are the pros and cons? Thanks for the help.

I have limited use with DVDXCOPY, but it was slow, it crashed a lot and just seemed to be crap. Mind you I only used it a few times, but it shouldn't crash at all. Oh, and the one time I got it to work, man was it slow! DVD Skrink is great, I have heard some people have issues with bugs. I've never had it crash on me, it's FAST and even a monkey could use it. Use it with Nero to actually burn the DVD and you're in DVD burning Heaven.

One click approach can be done with AutoShrink (burns dvd with imgtools which requires Nero) and DVDShrink.
Stick dvd in dvd-rom.
Stick blank DVD±R into dvd±r burner.
Open AutoShrink
In DVDShrink Re-Author or Full-Disk
Click OK.

You dvd will be ripped, transcoded and burned, ejected (or optional shutdown computer). Whole process takes about 25mins to 60 mins.
This is 100% free (ok except for the Nero but most people already have it)

I used DVD XCopy, doesn't crash on me. Quality wise, seems fine to me. From I've read before it does a 1:1 ratio so there won't be any quality loss due to compression.

The only thing that is a pain in the butt is the 1:1 when making a backup of my movies and it ends up requiring 2 DVD's with the special features included or it's just a huge movie in itself.

Oh, and I use the Sony +/- R/W burner too....

I have not had any problems with DVDXCOPY. Impressive little program, IMHO.

It's more than impressive to be able to burn a movie in under 35 minutes without any loss in quality whatsoever. Never any crashes with my Sony +/- R/W burner...X Copy is a great app, imho...
