DVD burner format?

I've heard a lot of people arguing that one format (R+ R- etc.) is better than the rest. Is this still an issue? If so, what do all of you find to be the best?

For me, it depends on what your stand alone player supports. My home DvD player doesn't play +r discs, only -r discs. You have to try and see which your player supports.

i just took the plunge and bought a DVD+R version. thankfully, it burns DVDs that have played fine in the 2 home DVD players i've tried. AFAIK, either format should be fine for most home DVD players built within the last 3 years or so.

As was said, it's an issue if you have a device that only reads one format or the other. Check DVDrHelp for fairly comprehensive lists of what format plays on what hardware (PC, settop, etc).. For the most part, most current devices will read both -R and +R fairly easily and with little trouble. My suggestion is get a dual format burner That way, no matter what you are covered.

Good advice on the dual format burner. That said, I have not had any trouble with either format in my Toshiba DVD players.
