Hi all, I need a dvd burner to convert 1 hour video's. and no their not porn LOL into dvds. I don't know much about the diff between the dual layer and normal, or if its even worth it, please help . i was looking at the 12x plex writer or the light on , but i don't think they are dual layer.

The issue is not with dual layer drives costing more than single layer drive, it's the media cost. Lowest prices are at $10 a piece right now. Those prices will come down but by the time it's affordable enough, all the current first generation dual layer drives out there now will be old slow junk. I'd say go with single layer drive now unless you have a serious need to fit 9gb on a single disc.

yeau I'm in the market for a cd/dvd burner as well. Is this the plextor drive you speak of? http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2052 All these types of formats are very confusing and I would enjoy a drive to be able to do all or most of the important ones.

blue ray sounds nice and all but my current cd burner only does 700mb burns so a normal dvd burn I hear is of 4.7gb!!!! good grief thats alot!!!!

any more recomendations for us guys? a DVD/CD combo burner of quality and maybe some reccomendations of good meda to go along with your said brand would be great :D

thx
