DVD burner does not burn cds or dvds

When I want to burn a cd, I put it into a playlist in wmp or creative jukebox and click burn, but recently, my pc has not been recognizing the drive and it won't burn. It rips fine, but not burning. Any ideas on how to fix this? Could it be the driver or something?

ok, how do I do a windows repair install and will it erase all my files

0roo0roo I will try that

EDIT: if it works in another pc, does that mean I have to do a windows repair install?

ok quick update:
I tried it in the family pc and it was recognized by wmp which leads me to believe something on my pc is to blame. Could it be that I have to do a windows repair install?

ok I found out how to modify the registry so that the recording tab is shown and I checked everything but wmp still says "connect a burner and restart the player"

I just tried that as well and while it was disabled, I enabled it and it still isn't working. The weird thing with IMPAI is that each time I go back into services and select it, it is disabled again, even after I've enabled it.

Here's a picture of my frustration: problem

Check this KB out. I have had this happen twice, and the fix is easy in RegEdit. Use Method 2.

I didn't see an "upper filter" but I deleted the lower filter and the problem persists

EDIT: the article counsels you to reinstall the burning program if the problem still exists. Should I just unistall wmp and reinstall it later?

still not working. so far I know that the drive is not to blame, recording is enabled, and the registry is edited.

if I were to try and reinstall wmp and I removed it from my system, then I can download the full version online right?

If that doesn't work, do a repair install. You won't lose any information.

I can just run the repair install and all my files will be the same?

I didn't change the IDE cable, but i'm sure it's connected right. The only part of the drive that doesn't work is the burning function.

ok I actually still haven't done the repair install on this. Just wanna make sure: will anything change after I do it? Files changed etc.?
