DVD Burner all of a sudden slow

I have a 4 month old HP Media center with a DVD-RW LightScribe. All of a sudden, ripping CD's with Itunes, DVD's, and burning DVD's/CD's has started to take forever. Burning a CD now takes 10 minuites, and ripping a DVD takes 3 hours!!!

I didn't change anything. I checked that DMA settings were on since that's all that I came up with on Google.

Any suggestions before I call HP??

I've heard that you must use special LightScribe-enabled discs with that burner. If there was a problem with the burner, Windows would slow the speed of the drive to PIO Mode. To correct this, In Device Manager, uninstall the IDE channel controller where the PIO mode is showing. Reboot, it will automatically reinstall. It probably should be running in UDMA2 speed. This might change the Drive Letter to a new Letter, but you can change the letter in Disk Management under Administrative Tools.

I uninstalled the IDE driver. it was always on DMA. Cleared cache. PIO mode never was up.

I am burning with either Itunes, Sonic Record now, Nero, DVD Shrink, etc.....

CD's and DVD's are a problem.

Have defragged and cleared cache.

I have a 250 gig HD.

This is a brand new computer (well 4 months old). Media Center computer with Athlon 64, 1 gig RAM. I think the system can handle this...

You need to use LightScribe disks if you want LightScribe enabled burning.

How do I post a Highjack this log.

Also, keep in mind that if I use my 2nd drive (a DVD-ROM) to RIP Music or DVD, it works flawlessly. Ripping AND burning with the DVD-RW is where the problem is. I'm sure it's not background processes.

Does this help??
