Hi all,

If you need to choose between these 3 BLACK dual 8x dvd burners. Which would it be???

I saw some posts here but want some more reviews on people who have them. All the prices reflect Neweggs prices. They can prob be had cheaper.

Optorite DD0401BK retail - $122.99 shipped

NEC ND-2500A Blk OEM Bulk - $116.00 shipped (lowered from $119)

Lite-On LDW811S OEM - $128 shipped (price back up from $122)

Can get in on the Staples/ OD deal for I/O Magic $99 but with tax it comes to approx. $107.00 depending on where you live and its a crapshoot if you'll get a Optorite, if lucky
or a BTC.

Thoughts

ps, can also settle for a 4x pioneer DVR-106BK OEM - $116 shipped

The new Pioneer 107,if you want quality burns with a dvd writter that's not picky about the media you use then you want the Pioneer.

Lite-on DVd burners are picky as hell when it comes to media,I know I had one & returned it for a pioneer.

i read in PCMag that the memorex burner (which i am in the process of buying NIB for $90 shipped, retail $220) was only outrun by the pioneer, which was the fastest and most reliable burner on the market at the time, by like 13 seconds. the memorex isn't as good as quality as the pioneer, but it is definately one of the best burners for your money. It also comes with some killer software like roxio and such like that.

I would choose Lite-On. Their latest firmware and the speed of the burner is amazing.

Thanks.

I hear lite-on's are ok but they have problems also. Not as reliable as their cdrw counterparts. :)

keep it coming

Be careful of the 8x drives, Memorex claim theirs is the only true 8x drive out there, everyone else is tweaking the lasers to get 8x.
Another thing 8x media is very expensive if you can find it.
My TDK Indio burns a DVD from 9 to 12 minutes, is 8x going to whip that? I seriuosly doubt that.
I would go for the Memorex and get a true 8x burner

NEC 2500A has been getting some great reviews. I'd get either the NEC 2500A or the Pioneer 107. The Pioneer 106 is an excellent drive, especially in terms to burning on any media.

Yeah, that's my experience anyway. I love my Lite-On CD-RW, but after a solid week of wrestling with the 411S, I decided to return it. I ordered an NEC ND-2500A instead, which should be arriving any day now.

I waited until the Pioneer came out before I ordered, but so far I haven't seen anything showing the Pioneer to be overwhelmingly better than the NEC, which is supposed to have excellent write quality and compatibility. Hopefully when it arrives, I'll be able to get the NEC working as well as everyone says it does on my system. Otherwise, the next drive I try will be the Pioneer.

So in the 4x range, what is the "best" in terms of ability to burn multiple brands of media? Pioneer? Plextor?

Primarily I want to burn Princo DVD-R's and Memorex CD-RW's. I had an Optorite D0201 and it would only burn Phillips DVD+RW media - it wouldn't even read a CD-R it burned. I flashed the firmware, but still, no dice. Eventually I returned it to Newegg for a repair RMA, but since it was Out of Stock they refunded the entire price sans the restocking fee. Joy!

I just want a drive that is a little less picky. I don't mind staying dedicated to one brand of media, but obviously I want the ability to mix it up if needs be.
