DVD backups (from player to recorder)

Hey people!

Could'nt find a specific category - so im posting in this

Im setting up a AV zone in my house. I've got all the hardware set. Now im in the process of wiring it up (i hate this bit)

I was wondering if i can backup my DVD's from my player thru the recorder

The Player is a DreamX 110

The Recorder is a Philips DVDR3370H

All jokes about Capt. Blackbeard aside, i've already had a few movie discs scratched which cause skips & glitches during playback. Having a backup stored away would be kinda nice

The manual for the recoder says it has a copyright protection system, so my questions are

1) Is making a backup possible?

2) Any online guides / resources i could use?

I don't know if that can be done or not. My advice for backing up DVDs though, is just buy a dual layer burner for your PC *under $40* and use DVDShrink *freeware*. Doom9 is a great resource with guides to popular proggies You can rip the DVD to the HDD using DVD decrypter or DVDFab decrypter too.
