my kids have this terrible habit of wrecking DVD's. I recently bought them the Incredibles DVD. I've gone through the process of backing it up to DVD-r using dvdshrink 3.2 and Nero 6.6.0.12. I used some dvd-r discs I've had for more than a year...can't even think of the brand.

Anyway, the movie plays great in my Mustek DVD player I bought...gawd, like 3 years ago for $50. But when I go to play it in my Toshiba SD-H400 (Tivo with DVD player), it plays all choppy and it makes a noise like the laser head is tracking all over the disc (rapid inconsistent back and forth motor noise). The player works fine with the original disc.

so I'm wondering...could it be the discs I'm using? Or does the player just not like burned DVD's?

I'd really like to be able to send the DVD backups with the kids to grandma's house, but if they won't work in her DVD player, that would really suck.

dvdrhelp.com lists the player as being dvd-r OK

dvdr media is rather inexpensive nowadays so it does not make sense to go with anythining other than the best - Taiyo Yuden DVD-R47ZZSB16 16x DVD-R you can find them at RIMA and SuperMediaStore and probably a bunch of other places. TY's 4x and 8x DVD-Rs are spectacular a their rated speeds as well. If you want good quality rips I would recommend you switch from shrink to DVD-Rebuilder. It's available here http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/ and can be used as a 1click app as well. You can read a lot about it at www.doom9.org. Also, consider building an image file with ImgTool Classic .91.5 (available at doom9.org as well) and burning it with DVDDecrypter. There have been numerous reports with Nero not burning properly.
