DVD auto-ejects every disc right after insertion.

Strange problem with a Toshiba model SD-M1212 DVD-ROM drive. It won't accept any disc that's loaded into it. Right after closing the tray it'll just instantly pop back open again. That'll happen on every disc type, DVD, CD, CD-R and CD-RW. But the drive will read and play discs properly if they're loaded. Since the drive auto-closes when Windows shuts down, if I put a disc in and reboot that disc will be fine, but taking it out and loading another goes right back to the automatic ejecting. I've tried changing all the settings on the drive, removing and reinstalling it and changing drivers, but nothing has helped. So, apart from offering up any jokes on thinking about baseball to cure that premature ejection problem, can anyone offer up a fix or is the drive just dying?

Umm, have you checked the front bezel? Maybe it's not sitting snugly where it's supposed to be sitting. That might cause it to auto-eject.

that one of those times where you think your pc is alive and is trying to piss you off! I would also have to say that it is not closing properly, also does the drive stay open constantly?
