what is the best dvd authoring software to purchase?

I just got a pioneer dvd -r drive d311 and want to place movies on it that i can then play on my stand alone dvd

and where is the best place to purchase dvd -r media.

is there also any hacks to make this drive better/faster.

Goto shop4tech.com for cheap DVD-R media. I am using Nero with my Sony DRU-500A and it works absolutely fine. For hacks check out vcdhelp.com.
 
Nero can't author DVD-Video. It can burn the files to the DVD correctly AFTER they are authored, but it can't create .vob and .ifo files needed for DVD-Video.

I use an "orphan" (i.e., no longer available) program called SpruceUp!. You can probably find it on the internet. Sonic MyDVD and ArcSoft ShowBiz came with my HP dvd200i and they are pretty basic. It seems like all the "affordable" authoring packages are very basic, and the more expensive programs are REALLY expensive and also difficult to use.
