Seems like I've finally figured out how to rip the audio track off of a DVD (for the music), but it doesn't sound as good as I thought it would. I started off with SmartRipper, pretty much kept everything on the default values, and ripped the whole thing as one .vob file. Then I used the program vob2audio to extract the AC3 channel from the .vob file and dump it into a .wav file. There's really no settings for the vob2audio program to mess with, so I don't think there's any problem there.
But the music doesn't sound as good as it does off of the regular DVD. The distortion isn't *terrible*, it doesn't sound like an electric guitar, nor is it clipping. It is still very listenable, it just isn't perfect. I'm at a loss for what could be the problem. There are so many settings in Smartripper that I don't know what to try. Any opinions?
