DVD and CDR not working any more in Win2K

I have Win2k SP2 running on my machine. Until recently I had my Adaptec SCSI controller (with a TEAC CDR connected to it) deactivated. My Pioneer DVD was working fine until I reactivated the SCSI adapter.
Until then I cannot see my DVD and CDR in the Explorer, although they have been listed ready in the devices manager ( along with all IDE and the SCSI controller).
I then connected the DVD to another controller (the onboard Promise) and deactivated the Adaptec again. Since then I get the error "registry possibly damaged (Code 19)" in the device manager for my Pioneer DVD drive. The CDR is still listed as ready, although I cannot see or use both in the Explorer.
Help would be greatly appreciated!

I would venture to say that the registry is confused.

One solution that may help is to go back into Device Manager and remove the DVD. Then, assuming that it is properly working and connected, rescan the hardware. The DVD should be found and attached.

ANOTHER place may be to look in the Disk Management section My Computer (right Click) Manage > Disk Management and/or the Drive itself.

Be extremely careful in the Disk Management area (especially with your Hard Drives).

Hope this helps a little - but your synopsis was somewhat confusing.

It may be nothing more than CDROM Drive Letter allocations being clobbered with one another.

Well, I have tried both solutions already, the first with no success. I can also not change anything in the disc management area, because the drives are not listed there.
I think the registry is corrupt and Win2K does not remove the entries connected to the DVD when I remove it from the device manager.

So, does anyone know a tool to reorganize the registry, or does anyone know where this entry is, so that I can manually delete it?

P.S. Sorry for the weird formulation, but I am german, and as a matter of fact, my problem is kind of weird!
Also I do not know the appropriate names of things, cause I am using the german version of Win2K.

You might want to try system mechanic's registry cleaner from www.iolo.com. It is free for 30 days. It has a registry cleaner that may be able to find some 'false' devices in the registry.

Good luck.
