DVD and CD-RW help

Hey, I've got a run-of-the-mill problem here-

I've got a Buslink(Raite) 8x DVD-ROM as a master on my secondary IDE channel. I've just got a ZipCD-RW 8/4/32, this the slave on the 2nd IDE channel.

My question is about transfer speeds. My BIOS recognizes the DVD as UDMA33 and the Zip as PIO4. Now, this is my first CD-RW; but POI4 sounds way too slow to me.

Is this normal? If not, is it a by-product of the master/slave combo on the 2nd IDE channel? And also what should that combo be? Every device support page wants their device to be the master. But what truly is the optimal combo?

Somedays, it still confuses me-

Actually, could you guys also post how exactly you have your IDE channels and drives set up?

Thanx- Mike

I suggest putting your CDRW as master... and put the DVD as slave...

As for my setup:

Primary Master - Harddrive
Primary Slave - DVD

Secondary Master - CDR drive
Secondary Slave - Empty

I have had this setup for a long time, so far no problems with watching DVDs or burning CDs...
