DVD-A or SACD?

Anyone use both?

It seems that selection of SACD is better than DVD-A. Sound quality of DVD-A is impressive, close to the original analogue masters as possible. Currently listening to Queen's "The Game" at 24/96. Totally blows away 16/44.1 by far.

Cheers!

would SACD work on my dvd player ? (which has optical out to my receiver.)

or would i need a special SACD player?

Your DVD player would have to support SACD. Currently only Sony offers SACD playback

thanx.

I was browsing thru my copy of rolling stones and it had this RS500 SACD in it. however it is multi format which says

****
This hybrid SA-CD is designed to play in both cd-compatible and super audio cd players. CD tracks are in stereo.
****

so using this on my dvd player or cd player would result in same audio quality as normal audio cds i assume?

Pioneer does also. I know theirs is around $170. And the reason you need special SACD players besides the ability to read the disk is they have a decoder and put out the audio to the receiver through 6 seperate audio cables not fiber optic... it prevents people from recording any of it.

STOP CONFUSING THE POOR GUY..

DVD-A and SACD both need special players.
ANALOG out is used to prevent copying
SACD is technically BETTER but it looks like DVD-a will win the format war.
Get a pioneer dual format player and be happy..

if i remember correctly, SACD samples at 2.4 GHz. which would you rather have, 96 KHz or 2.4 GHz? 😉
2.8MHz. Also, per sample, there's only 1 bit of information, whereas DVD-A can currently carry 24-bits per sample and sample 192000 times a second.

1 bit per sample? how does that work? how can that produce a waveform?

i like dvd a, mostly cuz idon't like sony controlled proprietary formats. its a shame the music industry didn't push these two techs out harder. cd is so old...

In addition to this, and where I think confusion lies is that DVD-A is separate from Dolby 5.1 and DTS recordings. Either of the latter can be played on a system that does Dolby/DTS decoding, which is pretty much standard home theater fare. TRUE DVD-A requires a player designed for that format. Some DVD-A's have more than one format on them allowing them to be used in conventional players.

yea, the people handling dvd standards or whatever fell on their face restricting home players from playing audio😛 bastards.
