dvd-304s only ripped at 1.5x

Anyone have pioneer dvd-304s ?
I can only rip at 1.5x, it's really odds since I though I supposed to be able to rip dvd around 8x.

anyone know how, I can possible increase the ripping speed ?

btw I use smartripper

I remember my 106S would only rip at 12x for regular CD's through CDRWIN.
