Can someone please help me to differenciate between the two specifications and advice me which one to buy?
First, I would like to know whether any of them is core 2 duo and what does the 'ea' in dv6299ea stand for? Is 6299 higher than 6238? and is T5500 higher than T2250 in terms of performance.
Guys, I need your help soon. I am a novice in this field.

(1) HP Pavilion dv6299ea NB PC, P-C Duo T5500 (1.66Ghz), 15.4" WXGA BV, 2GB (2x1GB), 120GB, DVDRW DL LS, WIFI 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth, With remote control, Webcam, - Vista H Premium

(2) HP Pavilion dv6238ea NB PC, P-C Duo T2250 (1.73Ghz), 15.4" WXGA BV, 2GB (2x1GB), 120GB, DVDRW DL LS, WIFI 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth, With remote control, Webcam, - Vista H Premium

Thanks

Unless I am mistaken, the T2xxx series chips are the Core Duos, anything else would be the Core 2.

And obviously the ea stands for 'edition awesome'

Based on Google searching, it seams that the "ea" designation has something to do with Europe. Just about all of the Google results are in Europe.

Stay away from any T2xxx processors as they are based on the Core design. T5xxx processors are Core 2's and have a 400 or 667 Mhz bus, and T7xxx processors are Santa Rosa platform Core 2 chips based on 800Mhz buses.

T7xxx are the best in power savings / features.

I would never go below 5xxx.

I've had better luck in most things with a Turion X2 over the Core (The Core absolutely sucked at games, it wasn't even funny)

T2xxx are Core Duo. T5xxx are Core 2 Duo, 533MHz or 667MHz bus, 2MB cache. T7xxx are 4MB Cache, with the T7200, T7400, and T7600 being 667MHz bus chips. All other T7xxx chips are 800MHz bus for the Santa Rosa platform.

also isnt Meron T7XXX the only chips which have EMT64?

My HP8710p will eat those laptops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However its a 17inch. :p

If you have the extra cash headroom, and you really want a 15.4, Thinkpad FTW! No laptop will own a thinkpad when it comes to business apps, and durability.

If your looking at a gaming laptop intergrated gfx blows.

mm the t2250 is 533fsb

the ram in the core duo notebook (dv6238) is probably DDR2 533
the core duos weren't that much worse than the core 2 duos, almost the same performance and battery life in fact, but the fsb probably makes the core duo slightly worse
and as seen in the review, the core duo is slightly slower than the core 2 duo, maybe because of the reduced L2 cache.

Are they the same price?
if the dv6238 is cheaper, one might consider getting it.

My biggest piece of advice for you is to get the best CPU you can afford. I opted for the T7200 when I configured my BTO DV6000 earlier this year. I love this laptop, but I wish I'd have gotten a Blackbook. That's what I'm getting next year, my wife will get my DV6000.
