dv1000 screen

My girlfriend has a dv1000. Her screen is loose. It stays up but it has a good amount of give. Enought that when you type with it on your lap it is hard to read the screen as it sways back and forth. I came across the folowing tech Manual. However, I am confused as to how to tighten the hinges on the screen. Can anyone read that manual and give me some more detailed instructions?

All it says is "Remove the 4 PM2.0x7.0 round head screws that secure the display assembly to the notebook."

You can try following the steps that show allow you to get at the screws and then tightening them, but the play is going to be in the rotating hinges which are not able to be tightened.

Unfortunately most HP notebooks tend to show excessive play in the screen over time.

EDIT You just have to be nice to them. My gf has had her dv1000 for probly around two years or so, it is looser but not a problem to use as she is very careful with it.

That manual does cover the removal and replacement of the DISPLAY ASSEMBLY (Sect. 5-10). That is what you have to do. Looseness in the hinges is not as bad a problem as tightness. I don't know of a way to tighten them - it may be a matter of cleaning off some lubricant.

I have the same manual. Be advised that if it is still under warranty, some of those procedures could void the warranty. If it is warranted still, then it could be serviced at a HP Center.
