I briefly Googled for this a while ago. From my results, it appeared that the cheapest option is to just buy a budget camcorder with Firewire to use for this purpose. As opposed to, say, one of these. Or maybe you have a friend that you could borrow a camcorder off them to capture your tapes to disk?
 
Since you no longer have the camcorder - all you have are the media - right? OK - what format are you talking about?

You could also rent a camcorder that fits the bill, long enough to convert your tapes to DVD.
