DV Capture to EIDE HDD recommendation?

Greetings,

Does anyone have a recommended combo for capturing DV video via 1394 to an ATA100 EIDE HDD?
Specifically, a success story of using a particular 1394 PCI card with an ATA 100 drive under W2K, with 0 frames dropped.

I have had 0% success with a WD IEEE1394 PCI adapter and WD200BB ATA100 drive. Unfortunatley, MS does not support the WD adapter in their updated Win 2K HCL, so perhaps there lies the problem?

Typical results:
- about 15th or so frame is dropped
- 50% chance of BSOD pointing to the OHCI1394.sys driver

Any suggestions for a better 1394 card?

Thanks,

C

I am using the Pyro Platinum firewire card with no problems (lockups or bluescreens). Nice software bundle.

Do you have DMA enabled on the hard-drive? Did you defrag before the capture?

As far as I can tell, DMA is enabled via BIOS at PIO mode 5. Though I have yet to validate that W2K recognizes this. I am attempting to capture to a slave drive on the primary IDE channel. This drive was intended to be strictly for video capture. I have not defragged the drive yet only a fresh format of the drive. Any advantage to using NTFS, versus FAT32?

I'm using a Pinnacle StudioDV firewire card with 2 WD20 GB ATA66 HDD in RAID 0 with no dropped frames at all. I have used the bundled pinnacle software as well as Adobe premiere without difficulty under Win2k sp2. I'm using FAT32.

Good luck
