Okay, I have a Sony DCR-TRV730 Camcorder that I currently have hooked up to my computer via Firewire, with the Firewire card that came with my Gainward Geforce4. I've been able to view the video in Windows' Device previewer and capture the video in both Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premiere. I also have Virtualdub, but I keep getting errors with this camcorder. The error happens when I select "Capture AVI" and it reads:

"Error: Cannot find a driver to draw this non-RGB image format. Preview and histogram functions will be unavailable."

Basically, I can't see anything so I can't record it. Will Virtualdub just not work with this camera or what? I think I read somewhere that Virtualdub needs a Video For Windows capture driver instead of the DV drivers that are temporarily installed when the camera is inserted.

What I'm trying to do is record my 18 minutes of video in a format with compression that brings it to a movable size (700ish MBs). Windows Movie Maker isn't the best of programs for this, and Adobe Premiere is better for image editing than video compression. It would be perfect if I could get the camera to work with Virtualdub (or another good program).

Can anyone help me with this?
