I am thinking of purchasing a Canon XL1S. Is this a good camera or are there better ones for about the same cash?

From what perspective? From a semi-pro perspective it is touted as being excellent. From a consumers perspective it might be overkill.

Fantastic camera IMO. I have the Optura Pi, but would love to have an XL1S.

My friends and I are planning on shooting some "shorts" in the near future with a possible indy film within the next year. I just don't have enough experience in the digital realm to know what cameras are the best for our needs. Indy films, for the most part, seem to be going in the digital direction I would want a camera that would be the best for our cash. Thanks for the reply... any and all help we can get is much appreciated.
