Regarding playing in the heat:

It's easier for most Latin guys and it's easier for most minority people because most of us come from heat. You don't find too many brothers in New Hampshire and Maine and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Right?" he said with a chuckle.

"We were brought over here for the heat, right? Isn't that history? Weren't we brought over because we could take the heat?"

"Your skin color is more conducive to heat than it is to the lighter-skinned people. I don't see brothers running around burnt," Baker said before the Cubs beat St. Louis at Wrigley. "That's a fact. I'm not making this up. I'm not seeing some brothers walking around with some white stuff on their ears and noses."

Yeah, acually he is. AFAIK, Black slaves died less often than white slaves in the southeast and caribbean so they because the slave of choice for those areas.

Yeah that's not too bad. I have long thought darker skinned people had an advantage in the sun. I am light complexioned, and cannot be out for more than 15 minutes or I get sunburned. He will probably get roasted in the press, but I wouldn't call the comment discriminatory.

What's wrong with saying that? Why do you think Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer?

Also don't people who live near the equator (who get the most sun) tend to have darker complexions, and people near the poles tend to have lighter complexions? I am pretty sure there is a correlation between sun exposure and skin tone.

You have to follow the politically correct rules!

1. Any discussion of race is racist, except it's OK to say someone is racist because that person discussed race.
2. You must pretend that all races are equal in every possible way except physical appearance, regardless of the truth. If you wish to disagree, then see rule 1.

the only problem I have with this, is that if a white man would have made the same comments their would be a media lynching.

I think that's true for the most part. That's why 1 in 3 Australians end up with skin cancer at least once in their life...because they're of European ancestry.

Actually, white reflects heat or light and black absorbs it and thereby increases in temperature. It's simple thermodynamics. His reasoning is backwards. I don't think he is a racist by any means.

Woah, Jimmy the Greek reborn. I've heard dark skin people don't like to live where it's cold. Could this be because tall dark skinned people are designed by his almighty to physically fit in in a tropical environment (dark skin to absorb the suns rays, and tall to easily disperse heat) Short, round light skinned people fit in better in colder more northern environments from the opposite principles.

Let's fire and chastise everyone who spouts facts that we don't want to hear.

are you even allowed to notice the physical differences?

but i really wish people made statements like that more often. even if any of what he said was not grounded in fact, it certainly seems to ring true with what people believe. i have a great suspicion that the ignorance of the american people is due in part to our fear of frankly discussing ideas such as this.

So? I would immediately point out the glaring hypocrisy like I do ALL the time with racial issues...

So why does that make Dusty Baker an idiot? It's not his fault he can say that and "get away with it".

Blacks make up 8% of Toronto and 5% of the larger cities in Alaska
Hispanics a negligible amount in Toronto, 5% in the larger cities in Alaska

Compare it to two hot cities:
Hotlanta is composed of 63% whites, 29% blacks, 7% hispanic
Miami has more Blacks and Hispanics than it does white people*

*editors note. I did live in Phoenix for over a year and saw maybe 5 black people the entire time I lived there. It could have been the same one as it was brief glimpses. This was weird considering it was roughly 50/50 where I went to high school
