Dusted off the big lens...some birdy shots outside my kitchen

Love the depth of field in the first two shots.

Glass and body?

It's an original digital Rebel (300D) and a Sigma EX 70-200 2.8f. Awesome lens. I'm not sure if my glasses are throwing things off but things look great through the diopter but come out a little blurry after shooting. I'm running a high shutter speed so it shouldn't be from shakey hands. Not sure how to correct that.

I also love cardinals. The gals come in close and feed and aren't as flighty as the males. The males bolt at the slightest hint of motion from me shooting through the sliding door.

some shots aren't sharp.

maybe its the sensor? 6MP doesn't give you much room for cropping. To me, birding requires longer lenses like a 100-400 or something. I'd imagine at 200mm you'd still have to crop a bit here and there. Hopefully it isn't the lens.

I'm sure the 90% image reduction that was done through the image hosting isn't helping the sharpness either.

🙂

I have the exact same lens/body. 🙂

Have you had problems with those long-since discontinued Cannon battery pacs that are compatible with that generation? Mine are more than 7 years old (have a Canon miniDV that I purchased a year or two before the rebel that uses the same) and are completely dead.

I can only find them for $40+ on eBay last I checked. Completely shut me down. I really don't want to buy new equipment.

Oh yeah, they are dead...or essentially dead. I get like 10 minutes of shoot time out of them now. I have two Canon OEM ones...the original with the body and a 2nd that came with a Canon accessory kit. Both toast. I'm rocking one that came from Monoprice for like $8 I think.

yesss!! thanks man.

i was looking for the generic stuff. i bought some of those long ago as well for super cheap, but couldn't find them again.

🙂

I have the grip extender which adds an extra battery pack, but completely useless with only one battery, or only one functioning battery. 🙁
